The trick to going over 10 icons and counting them is to wear each piece and count the icons, then total the icons for the armor set. So in 1.6.4, 1.7.10 and 1.8.9 every 1/2 armor icon is 4% protection and it is a matter of adding the counting the icons provided by the armor and multiplying by 8% (full iron is 7.5 icons x 8 = 60). Different combinations of armor provide different levels of defense. The armor meter is affected by the particular pieces that are worn, as well as the tier of the armor. The Tinkers Construct wiki just says 'At full durability, it has as many armor points as vanilla Diamond Armor.' I don't recall if anything at all is mentioned in the in-game books about the armor or not, but as far as I can find, there's been no mention of how to upgrade it's durability. The fact that it's listed like that would give you the impression that it can be increased, but I have not found any information on how to do that. For instance, the goggles have a protection level of 4%, the vest 10%, the wings 8% and the boots 6%. I would presume that's how you get it to higher armor levels.

I was disappointed that the Boost mod interfered (either intentionally or accidentally at the mod level, or intentionally in the mod pack settings, I don't know) with auto-walking up single blocks, so I had to disable the Boost mod.Д«ut there is a percentage of protection on it, that I can't find any info on. But I still use it, for the things you can add like water walking. I was wondering about the Tinker's stuff, as it seemed I wasn't getting the protection it was advertising.
